Posted by Sir Geek on 08/20/2005 1:25PM Early Thursday morning (about 7 AM) Callie is woken up by large amounts of noise outside our house. A few days earlier, our neighbor told us that she had called the city about getting our sidewalks redone. They decided to do it this week. They never bothered to tell us that this was happening and we only knew thanks to our neighbor. Callie and I haven't been sleeping great ( We are still grieveing big time for Tuxie :( ) . And Callie getting woken up 4 hours earlier than normal isn't a good thing. I warned the work men that Callie was has not had much sleep and would normally still be sleeping at this time. So that if anything happend to the rose bushes next to the side walk, She'd emasculate each one of them. They were REALLY careful after that *g* . It will be nice, the sidewalk has sucked ever since we moved in ( 12 years ago ). Its always been 1/2 eaten by acid rain and just not level. They have the old sidewalk removed and the end of my driveway is gone too. They should be finishing up by Monday or Tuesday but I'll have to park on the street for a few days though. Such is life. Posted by Sir Geek on 04/04/2005 08:27AM I just spent a better part of the weekend cleaning our basement. Callie and I have been in the house for almost 12 years now and its amazing what sort of things accumulate. For example, I had my old metal tool box ( had it from before we were married ) that had been on the cellar floor ( and due to the water problems we've had, started to rust) so I had to toss it, I also had an old enlarger for doing photography that had rotted out and had to be tossed too. And the cellar STILL isn't clean. I'm going to have to spend the next few weeks getting it cleaned out so that I can get it organized to help get the stuff out of the rest of the house ( and also tossed in the trash as I go through it ). The original fireplace set that came with the house was still downstairs, but I finally tossed it out too. I still have an old light fixture, while it still works, I have no place to actually use it so I'm thinkint THAT will need to be tossed into the trash as well. It seems like the cleaning never ends. I mean, what purpose does this serve other than to say "I did this because I could". [Link][1 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 01/03/2004 6:23PM We've been having problems with our tub leaking and causing water damage to the kitchen ceiling ( right below it ). So last weekend I re-grouted around the tub. This week I started to replace the ceiling tiles in the kitchen. Expecting the hell that the we've had round the house for the rest of things, we prepared for the worst. We were pleasently surprized: 1) The tiles are a standard size ( 12" x 24" - We can replace with the new standard of 12" x 12" ) 2) They used furring strips to attach them to the ceiling. The strips are 12" on center ( like they are suposed to be). We also found out they enlarged the kitchen at some point ( when they did our 1/2 bath off the kitchen too ) because we found 2 different plaster ceilings and a beam from the old wall. |
