One of the groups of links I get are ones about Liberty. this one is one of the best ways I have ever seen to present how our liberties are supposed to work. Posted by Sir Geek on 08/18/2006 2:34PM I guess I've been a bit neglectful of this blog. Time to do some updates. Posted by Sir Geek on 08/12/2005 01:56AM Tuxie has been sick and for the last 2 months she's been segregated in one bedroom by herself. She's always "marked", however with IBD, it isn't just urine she's marking with :( . Over the last few weeks she's lost more and more weight ( she's now at about 4.3 lbs from 7.5 lbs 18 months ago ). Over the last 2 weeks, she's been acting loopy ( Meowing at nothing, meowing at her reflection in her water dish). So to be safe, Callie and I took her to the vets this past Monday. We thought part of her problem was due to her prenesone. With her weight be lower, we figured the dosage might be too high because a side effect of prednesone is dementia. We started lowering it and Tuxie started to return to normal. However our vet wanted to do blood work because the last time she had an elevated white count ( which might indicate an infection ). The results came back today, her white count is even higher. The most likely cause of it is Cancer ( Feline Leukemia ). We could find out for sure by doing a bone marrow exam. But what would that do ? Cause Tuxie more trauma ( she HATES the "box", she hates going anywhere ) and it would confirm something that we're pretty sure is the case for very little benefit. Yes we could do chemotherapy for her, but the major issue for her is quality of life. We're just going to do our best to make sure she's comfortable and not in any pain. Keeping her around for our sake is just selfish. We have to do what is best for her no matter how much it will hurt losing her. Posted by Sir Geek on 05/07/2005 12:53PM If Bud Abbott and Lou Costello were alive today, their infamous sketch, "Who's on first?" might have turned out something like this: COSTELLO CALLS TO BUY A COMPUTER FROM ABBOTT ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you? COSTELLO: Thanks I'm setting up an office in my den and I'm thinking about buying a computer. ABBOTT: Mac? COSTELLO: No, the name's Lou. ABBOTT: Your computer? COSTELLO: I don't own a computer. I want to buy one. ABBOTT: Mac? COSTELLO: I told you, my name's Lou. ABBOTT: What about Windows? COSTELLO: Why? Will it get stuffy in here? ABBOTT: Do you want a computer with Windows? COSTELLO: I don't know. What will I see when I look at the windows? ABBOTT: Wallpaper. COSTELLO: Never mind the windows. I need a computer and software. ABBOTT: Software for Windows? COSTELLO: No. On the computer! I need something I can use to write proposals, track expenses and run my business. What do you have? ABBOTT: Office. COSTELLO: Yeah, for my office. Can you recommend anything? ABBOTT: I just did. COSTELLO: You just did what? ABBOTT: Recommend something. COSTELLO: You recommended something? ABBOTT: Yes. COSTELLO: For my office? ABBOTT: Yes. COSTELLO: OK, what did you recommend for my office? ABBOTT: Office. COSTELLO: Yes, for my office! ABBOTT: I recommend Office with Windows. COSTELLO: I already have an office with windows! OK, let's just say I'm sitting at my computer and I want to type a proposal. What do I need? ABBOTT: Word. COSTELLO: What word? ABBOTT: Word in Office. COSTELLO: The only word in office is office. ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows. COSTELLO: Which word in office for windows? ABBOTT: The Word you get when you click the blue "W". COSTELLO: I'm going to click your blue "w" if you don't start with some straight answers. OK, forget that. Can I watch movies on the Internet? ABBOTT: Yes, you want Real One. COSTELLO: Maybe a real one, maybe a cartoon. What I watch is none of your business. Just tell me what I need! ABBOTT: Real One. COSTELLO: If it's a long movie, I also want to watch reels 2, 3 and 4. Can I watch them? ABBOTT: Of course. COSTELLO: Great! With what? ABBOTT: Real One. COSTELLO: OK, I'm at my computer and I want to watch a movie. What do I do? ABBOTT: You click the blue "1". COSTELLO: I click the blue one what? ABBOTT: The blue "1". COSTELLO: Is that different from the blue w? ABBOTT: The blue "1" is Real One and the blue "W" is Word. COSTELLO: What word? ABBOTT: The Word in Office for Windows. COSTELLO: But there are three words in "office for windows"! ABBOTT: No, just one. But it's the most popular Word in the world. COSTELLO: It is? ABBOTT: Yes, but to be fair, there aren't many other Words left. It pretty much wiped out all the other Words out there. COSTELLO: And that word is real one? ABBOTT: Real One has nothing to do with Word. Real One isn't even part of Office. COSTELLO: STOP! Don't start that again. What about financial bookkeeping? You have anything I can track my money with? ABBOTT: Money. COSTELLO: That's right. What do you have? ABBOTT: Money. COSTELLO: I need money to track my money? ABBOTT: It comes bundled with your computer. COSTELLO: What's bundled with my computer? ABBOTT: Money. COSTELLO: Money comes with my computer? ABBOTT: Yes. No extra charge. COSTELLO: I get a bundle of money with my computer? How much? ABBOTT: One copy COSTELLO: Isn't it illegal to copy money? ABBOTT: Microsoft gave us a license to copy Money. COSTELLO: They can give you a license to copy money? ABBOTT: Why not? THEY OWN IT! (A few days later) ABBOTT: Super Duper computer store. Can I help you? COSTELLO: How do I turn my computer off? ABBOTT: Click on "START"....... [Link][1 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 05/02/2005 08:25AM I swear. In the last few years Callie and I swear that there are more and more idiots out there. Why do I say this ? For example, there is a bridge near us that is being rebuilt. The road to it is currently 3 lanes ( One Left Turn Only, One Strait, and One Right Turn only). 9 times out of 10, we're in the middle lane to go strait over the bridge but there is some idiot in the right turn lane who inisists on going strait. It isn't like the area is posted, it is ! Another example ? Its a 55 MPH limit when heading on Route 91 ( when it is going through the City of Springfield ) yet if you are doing that speed, you'll get run down unless you are in the rightmost lane ( slow lane). Callie and I were heading to Enfield, CT to purchase powerball tickets ( since my state doesn't sell them ) and as soon as I merged onto 91 South, some twat in a Jaguar, was RIGHT on my car's tail. I move to the center lane and this person flys past me ( doing at least 70MPH). [Link][2 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 02/18/2005 10:19PM I went to the ER because I thought I was having a heart attack.. No.. REALLY.. Callie and I were bowling and at the start of the 3rd game, I started to feel "funny", something wasn't right. I was REALLY cold (I'm always warm ) and my arms were weak. After the 3rd game ( we did manage to win, thanks to the other members of the team, I didn't even hit average that game ). Callie and I zipped home, to get her drivers license, and then went to the hospital. We told the triage nurse that I was having chest pains and weakness in my amrs, so they took us into the room and took my blood pressure. It was 170/105 which put me to 3rd in line to be seen. About an hour later, I finally got into an ER room and they hooked me up to a BP and Pulse monitor and my heart rate was over 100bpm (normally its 60bpm) and it my bp was still sky high. They came in, put an IV into my hand ( OWWIES !!! ), took like 4 blood samples and then gave me a beta-blocker which dropped my bp down to much better range. They also gave me 2 injections of morphone to kill the chest pain ( and to freeze my hand since the stuff was refrigerated ). After the stuff took effect, they took me to get some xrays and once those were developed and they got the results of the blood test, I was declared ok enough to go home. They have no idea what it was, but it wasn't a heart attack. I got 2 days homefrom work to take it easy out of the deal, and a VERY relieved Callie. I'm feeling totally normal now and still don't know quite what was wrong with me, and hope to God it never happens again. [Link][1 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 02/08/2005 10:08PM Ok.. I'm a nerd. I admit it. Are you one ? [Link][2 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 11/18/2004 9:32PM This dipstick congressman is wasting time, money and air with his Campain to change the name of Route 69 to a more moral number. What the hell is the dipshit smoking that he feels the need to change the route ? What is he going to do next ? Demand that all buildings over 68 floors no longer use the 69th floor ? Is he going to change the the name and lyrics to "Come all ye Faithful" because it talks about orgasms ? Posted by Sir Geek on 10/19/2004 01:46AM Today was my 1st day of training on a Content Management System from a company called Interwoven. Our first lesson was how to use the most important tool. You don't even need to open the packets up. It does it for you. Oh yeah we also learned about their tool from a users perspective. [Link][2 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 10/14/2004 2:08PM BLEH. I'm being forced to go on a business trip to MD for 5 days starting Sunday night. It sucks. The only good thing is my company paid for the plane and rental car.. The bad things.. Hmmm..
And probably more that hasn't come to mind yet. [Link][1 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 08/17/2004 10:42PM Well.. I've finally gotten around to posting the "after" pictures. This is from about 3 weeks after the surgery. Nothing too weird. Callie is putting on the scargard bandages to minimize the scarring. It worked well when I had my arm surgery a few years back. [Link][2 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 07/09/2004 02:15AM On July 7th, I had a Lipoma removed ( Fatty Tumor ). It was harmless but in a spot that was REALLY annoying ( on my shoulder blade ). Callie took the bandage off tonight like the Dr. said, and holy crap ! I look like Frankenstein. Or another view of it. The scar is 3 1/2 inches long. Posted by Sir Geek on 06/13/2004 9:46PM Well.. Yesterday was my birthday. Callie and I spent it working on our roses ( we lost 20 plants due to a particularly harsh winter) So we've been working on redoing the rose bed ( to make it nicer and better for the roses. Back to birthday. We went to Callie's parents for my birthday ( since my parents are gone - Today would have been their 51st wedding anniversary ) and I got Dilbert the Series on DVD and I'll be getting Battlestar: Galactica with the Ceylon box set when it comes in. Callie also got me a PlayStation 2 since we don't have any type of "game" system ( unless you count my Atari 2600 or my Commoder 64 ). For games, she got me :
And she got us a 2 pack of 8MB Memory Cards for saving games. All in all a pretty good birthday.... [Link][1 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 05/09/2004 7:10PM That's exactly the choice I was given yesterday at McDonalds. Callie and I were on our way home after buying 12 new rose bushes to replace ones that croaked over the winter, but on the way home we decided to get some lunch. We went to MickyD's and ordered 2 salads and 2 5 piece chicken nuggets ( we had a buy on get one free coupon )... We paid for it and then someone there came up to me and said "I'm sorry.. "We only have one salad... Would you like some cookies instead ?" .. Really they asked that stupid of a question. Hmmm.. reasonable nutritious salad or high carb cookies with 0 dietary value ? I honestly couldn't believe they were that stupid.. I just asked for my $ 1.05 back and we went home and grabbed some salad from the fridge. Are people truly that stupid to think that cookies are a reasonable exchange for a salad ? [Link][1 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 04/01/2004 10:39PM is giving a good soaking to stupid people. Callie and I were heading to the store and were in the parking lot of the strip mall... These two STUPID kids where just shuffling along ( in a downpouer ) and not even paying any attention to the cars (like me.) so as I drove by them I manged to hit a good puddle and soak at least one of them ( as I heard a squeal from one of the kids as I drove by )... Ah.. The simple pleasures ... [Link][3 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 02/17/2004 9:56PM At my 8 to 5 job, we had a new Webmaster start. This is good ( VERY GOOD ) as now I'll have someone else with whom to share the On Call crap and the joy of doing user account paperwork and account setup ). At least that's what it will be at first. Once he's up to speed, we'll both be getting more involved in our corporate web site redesign. We'll see how things go from here. [Link][2 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 01/02/2004 01:54AM It is so nice to feel like myself again after this past Tuesday. What about Tuesday ? Well... I spent a part of the morning offering homage to Ralph ( aka puking my guts up). Not a fun thing. I wound up sleeping until 7pm. I'm still not sure if it was a flu or some sort of food poisoning. Either way it sucked. Posted by Sir Geek on 12/25/2003 11:18PM Well.. The day is about over so I think its time to wish everyone well. Hopefully you got what you wanted. I did. I got: A forever flashlight that doesn't need batteries. 3 Bowling lessons from Callie ( not that I suck - I'm a 133 or so average but I can always use a little help ) 2 Vidoes ( Star Trek V: The Final Frontier and Matrix Reloaded ). I also got Atari Classics 10-in-1 TV Games (from Callie) to bring back my youth and playing on the Atari 2600 ( in the days of 16 color graphics being the top of the line ), a 2 in 1 screw driver and knife combo to replace my missing jack knife. We also got some nice yummy Omaha steaks and steak sauce to go with it. And to top it all off, I got a cold. [Link][1 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 10/01/2003 1:42PM Why is it that job interviews are so damned annoying. I was recently in the process of interviewing for a promotion at my job ( no word on it yet ). I interviewed with 6 people ( 1 from HR, the manager who this position would report to, another engineer to check my technical skills then 2 other managers who this person would need to work with ). I wore my suit more times this past week than I had the entire rest of the year. [Link][1 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 07/30/2003 2:23PM Well.. Suckoserver has been reborn (sorta). It has been rebuilt and is a much umphier system. It is now an Athlon XP 1800 w/512MB of RAM and a 30GB HD so that it should be able to handle whatever we put on it. We're prolly going to do a NWN server when I can figure out what mod I want to run. [Link][6 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 07/30/2003 2:21PM My sister recently bought her 1st house. So Callie and I are doing work on it for her (since she helped us with stuff on our house). I'm replacing her plugs/etc (since I do electrical work) and man.. the previous owners were stu's (as in stupids). They did wood paneling but didn't bother to bring the fixture boxes flush to the new wood paneling so that some of the plugs are floating (not flush to the wall or even connected to anything). Callie was putting a tester into the plug and was afraid it was going to into the wall and never return. ... Then the fun of figuring out what breaker goes to what plug (or which breakers go to a single plug). Not fun. But that's life. [Link][1 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 06/11/2003 10:24AM when you really don't care As I'm walking in the door to work, someone asks be how I'm doing and before I can respond with how I REALLY feel, he's gone. I mean, I don't mind some "niceties" but just say "Hi" if you don't care what my response is. [Link][2 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 06/04/2003 12:16AM Howdy. For those who don't know me. I'm Sir Geek. I run the servers that house a spitload of sites (most related to Mr. Sucko - mrsucko.org ). I also have been running a Web Consulting Mailing list for around 3 years now (It has been around much onger if you count when it originally was created back in 1995). At the request of my wife Callie (her site is http://www.mrsucko.org/~callie/myphpblog/callie.php ) the only topic that will NOT be discussed here is my "real" 9 to 5 job. |
