Posted by Sir Geek on 08/20/2005 1:25PM Early Thursday morning (about 7 AM) Callie is woken up by large amounts of noise outside our house. A few days earlier, our neighbor told us that she had called the city about getting our sidewalks redone. They decided to do it this week. They never bothered to tell us that this was happening and we only knew thanks to our neighbor. Callie and I haven't been sleeping great ( We are still grieveing big time for Tuxie :( ) . And Callie getting woken up 4 hours earlier than normal isn't a good thing. I warned the work men that Callie was has not had much sleep and would normally still be sleeping at this time. So that if anything happend to the rose bushes next to the side walk, She'd emasculate each one of them. They were REALLY careful after that *g* . It will be nice, the sidewalk has sucked ever since we moved in ( 12 years ago ). Its always been 1/2 eaten by acid rain and just not level. They have the old sidewalk removed and the end of my driveway is gone too. They should be finishing up by Monday or Tuesday but I'll have to park on the street for a few days though. Such is life. Posted by Sir Geek on 08/14/2005 10:28PM We had to make the hardest decision of our lives today. We realized that Tuxie wasn't getting any better, in fact she was getting worse. She was barely able to walk and she wasn't able to clean herself. Because we didn't want to take a chance driving ourselves, Callie called her older sister who came to take us to the vets after she got back from going to church with her family. The vets office ( the 24 hour emergency animal hospital ) was very busy, so we were stuck in the waiting room with Tuxie for a while. We wound up talking to a couple who after hearing what we were there for, the woman started crying too ( and hugged Callie ). She had to have a cat put down too and she was there with a feral cat that she had rescued who was having urinary problems and wasn't able to pee. After an hour or more ( we don't know how long we were, we didn't care) we finally got into the room, they took Tuxie so they could give her a catheter. They brought her back wrapped in a towel because she had liquid poo'ed herself. After about 10 minutes with her, we let the techs know that Tuxie was ready, even though we weren't. The vet came in shortly after and gave Tuxie some anesthetic and she went peacfully to sleep at 3:50 PM Sunday August 14, 2005. We will always miss her. [Link][1 comments] Posted by Sir Geek on 08/12/2005 01:56AM Tuxie has been sick and for the last 2 months she's been segregated in one bedroom by herself. She's always "marked", however with IBD, it isn't just urine she's marking with :( . Over the last few weeks she's lost more and more weight ( she's now at about 4.3 lbs from 7.5 lbs 18 months ago ). Over the last 2 weeks, she's been acting loopy ( Meowing at nothing, meowing at her reflection in her water dish). So to be safe, Callie and I took her to the vets this past Monday. We thought part of her problem was due to her prenesone. With her weight be lower, we figured the dosage might be too high because a side effect of prednesone is dementia. We started lowering it and Tuxie started to return to normal. However our vet wanted to do blood work because the last time she had an elevated white count ( which might indicate an infection ). The results came back today, her white count is even higher. The most likely cause of it is Cancer ( Feline Leukemia ). We could find out for sure by doing a bone marrow exam. But what would that do ? Cause Tuxie more trauma ( she HATES the "box", she hates going anywhere ) and it would confirm something that we're pretty sure is the case for very little benefit. Yes we could do chemotherapy for her, but the major issue for her is quality of life. We're just going to do our best to make sure she's comfortable and not in any pain. Keeping her around for our sake is just selfish. We have to do what is best for her no matter how much it will hurt losing her. |
